Boy faces death

Boy faces death

It was a devastating day in Burnsville last Tuesday May 25th. Logan Ryder a young boy had just been dropped off at Sky Oaks Elementary by his mother for his very first day of school. The mood changed quickly when his notebook was carried by the wind landing underneath a parked bus. Logan went out to grab his brand new Power Rangers notebook. As soon as he did the new bus driver by the name of Kelsey Beerling started up and ran over him. The bus company First Student has no comment on the event. His leg was crushed instantly by the giant wheels but the rest of his body remained untouched. He was rushed to Fairview ridges where his parents later met him. "Every Parent prays they don't receive the call we got," says the mother of kindergartener Logan Ryder. He has suffered a broken leg and has momentarily lost the feeling in his right leg. Doctors say Logan will be able to recover over the next few months and advises his parents to help him through the experience emotionally as well as physically. "We plan to walk him in ourselves next time," Says Logan's father.

My reaction to online ads

When surfing the net it can get annoying having all the different and distracting ads. After doing an assignment in class based on online advertisements I definitely stared to notice them more than I did before. I needed them to do the assignment but then found myself looking at them in my own time. I really didn't notice them before because I had no need to buy anything and I always knew exactly what i was looking for so i stayed concentrated on that. They don't really get in my way because I have no need for the products. I just think they are annoying. I'm guessing they are more effective on other people than they are on me.

Nike's trying to sell me some shoes!!

If a company like Nike was trying to sell me a product they would go about doing it in a few different ways based on information they know about me. The demographic segment of information for them is, I am a female, high school student, white, little income, and 18 years old. The young age could help show I like to be active. The gender would determine things like colors i would more likely be attracted too along with designs and styles. The Geographic segment of information would be that I live in an urban setting. In Savage,Minnesota the whether is usually cold during most of the year. That can eliminate different shoe styles like sandals vs. running shoes. The Psychographic information that would be most helpful is things about my personality. I have an energetic upbeat and generally optimistic attitude. I dance and love to work out. Nike could assume I want a shoe I can move in. I try not to care where I get my shoes as long as they look good on me. Nike could also benefit from knowing my behavioral information. I only buy shoes when my old ones are dirty and wore down or if there are a super cool new pair that catches my eye. I shop for shoes at the beginning of each season too. If Nike considers this information I feel I would be a lot more likely and convinced to buy from their company.

Images

When asked for an image that has impacted my life, the picture on the left is one that comes to mind. The Memories of 9/11 will never fade for me. Whenever I hear people mention the devastating day my mind goes directly to the picture of the second plane going into the second twin tower. This image sticks out to me, because I remember watching the act on TV over and over again. I took a picture on my own at the very same moment the camera did. I was young at the time, but I remember being scared and upset. This picture explains exactly what happened rather than other pictures that just show the result of what happened. The picture's sunrising background helps tell us when this happened. It also gives me the vibe that things were happy and like any other day.The image gives a dose of reality to people who were and still are in shock. This picture will forever be...9/11 to me.

Gender in the Media

I think the media portrays 17-20 year old men as self-centered, tough, and irresponsible.
The movie "John Tucker Must Die" is a perfect example of guys being self-centered. He is cocky with women, sports, and school in the movie. A good example for guys portrayed as tough can be found in music videos especially rap videos. The guys dress like they are in a gang, have attitude and fowl language. All around they look and act like they would fit anyone at anytime for any reason. That attitude also has a buff body to go with it. It pressures guys to be bigger and stronger looking. A good example for guys being portrayed as irresponsible can be found in "Step Up." The guy in the story makes an impulsive decision to trash a school and spends the rest of the movie to make restitution and learn from his mistakes. Along on the way he blows off his commitments and struggles to get his life back together. Many of the young men today have pressure to follow these not so great examples in order to feel like they are normal or fit in.

bloggin it up :)

This past Tuesday was the beggining of the end of my last semster in high school. My first impression of my Media Lit class was like most of my others classes...just another hour with homework. As our teacher explained what the class would cover I got more excited. I was very interested on this blog stuff we have to do because i have never had one or followed one. I really didn't like my last teacher so its refreshing to have a new one. Hopefully things will go better.
Thats all for now!!
